GPA 604s in ( GM helped ) MLTLs - good report in 2016 RMAF

See the Serious Stereo write up, a little down the page, begins with the with red mono amps and also a GPA 604 pictured.

IMPORTANT NOTE, I do NOT work for, or have any financial interest in Serious Stereo, but I was there all weekend, setting up and helping Dennis Fraker run his demo room. Dennis is just a close and trusted audio friend, and a mentor of mine, over the last three decades. GM helped Dennis in the design, some years ago, of the MLTLs.

Anyway, he had his 604 MLTLs sounding pretty darn good !!!

See and read this one-day-old Stereophile report here :

    Hello,

I am in the process of deciding on cabinets for my 604-8g. The article is interesting, and I have heard of TLs before but seen little in the way of actual plans. The TLs in the picture look quite large - on the scale of the 'typical' 9 cu ft Stonehenge V or Billfort. What is the advantage of a TL over a properly design ported / vented cabinet? I am not so far along in the decision process that TL is out of the picture, but what is the value proposition? Did they sound better in some way relative to a full size 'standard' cabinet?

    regards -- Roger

I am the wrong guy to ask. I am more of an amp design guy than a speaker guy.

I am thinking that a full horn load is best, next, MLTL, and finally, a "box" such as you mention.

BUT BUT BUT, there are FAR more qualified individuals than I am, to answer you well, on this Forum.

The right amp design, especially its power supply design, is UBER important, I can tell you that. Write to me, and if you are DIY - capable, I can steer you in a good direction on amps for ALTEC speakers, such as was used by Dennis in the show last weekend.

ALSO : Go to this URL

scroll down the text on the page until you see in a darker ( bolder lettering )

    " Favorite Rooms "

    Read first three paragraphs.

Gordon Rankin gets a rave, likely deserved, we couldn't get away to hear it, wish I had. Then read third paragraph about Dennis' room, 604 GPA MLTLs, etc.
